Sixth Dynasty Travelling Ship

A passenger ship used on the Nile River in the year 2300 B.C. The Cage on the back of the ship supported a roof to offer sun protection for the workers.

In comparing this to the Fifth Dynasty traveling ship one notices the ends of the hull have become rounded. This is the beginning of the streamlined hull form that the Egyptians would eventually develop into a spoon shaped hull.

When ships are developed in any culture the first stage is to create a flat-bottomed ship with angular sides and squared off ends. From there the craft usually evolves to be more rounded and streamlined.
